In the past, marine engines tended to be tall V8, sterndrive and inboard powered models. Many of these had long strokes and suffered from very unstable valve train components, resulting in ongoing failures. This led to a migration away from big cubic inch, or large inboards and sterndrive (inboard/outboard) engines toward outboard engines, which can also offer better power-to-weight ratio.

However, for enhanced performance, multiple outboard engines are needed to achieve the desired horsepower. While these new high-performance, outboard engines can be acquired cost-effectively, they add significant weight to the boat and can create excess loads, which can escalate failures.

Today’s technology has evolved to include better solutions for achieving valve train stability, the availability of more efficient and powerful engines with improved internal components design and manufacturing, resulting in enhanced reliability.

Evaluating all of the options, our experience had led us to a new approach to propulsion — one that combines large cubic inch V8 engine platforms with innovative valve train, electronic fuel injection and engine management technologies, which are supported by robust internal components. The result? A new powerful and reliable engine for the marine performance market.
